Ann L. Lynch
With hearts full of love, gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ann Louise Lynch (née Gumber), who was born on July 26, 1921 and reached the remarkable age of 104 and 10 months passing away peacefully on May 31, 2026. Ann, a true angel, leaves us with her love. Ann was born in East Moline, IL, and built a life in Chicago defined by devotion. Devoted daughter, sister and wife to the late Thomas L. Lynch II, her husband of 57 years who she met at the Aragon Ballroom where they loved to dance-- he was attracted to her lovely red hair. With only one family car she could often be seen riding her bike with basket all over the neighborhood to church and shopping. She spent her life devoted to the Catholic church at St. Mary Star of the Sea parish, and serving people in need. She was the church sacristan for at least 60 years, cleaning and decorating and preparing the church and linens for weekly services. She was known above all for her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a member of The Blue Army, a group who did pilgrimages to people's homes to recite the rosary. She was awarded the Christafideles Award by Bishop Quarter in 2004 for her many years of lay service to the church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society Sr. Rosalie Award for outstanding work to the needy. She volunteered for Share Foods, The Food, Pantry, The Altar and Rosary Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society and served many roles at the church.
Ann was the loving wife of the late Thomas Lawrence Lynch II. She was the mother of Susan (Robert) Ritchie, the late Thomas (Carol) L. Lynch, III. Raymond (Nancy) Lynch, Kathleen (Will) Frederickson, John (Diane) Lynch, Dominic (Diane) Lynch, and Mary (Cliff) Bocian. Loving Grandmother to Morgan (Emily) Ritchie, the late Lisa Ritchie, Tricia (Matt) Domico, Diana (Paul) Stephenson, Thomas L. (Kristen) Lynch IV, Raymond (Becky) Lynch Jr., Renae (Shawn) Petritsch, David (Chanla) Frederickson, Katie (Mike) Jaurrieta, Nicholas Frederickson, Sharon (Tony) Stafford, John (fiancée Gaby) Lynch, Garrett (Shana) Lynch, Kevin Lynch, Daniel Lynch, Michelle Bocian, and Paul Bocian. Great Grandmother of Mae & Camille Ritchie, Emilia & Abigail Lynch, Paul II & Scott Stephenson, Riley, Reece & Remington Lynch, Ryker Petritsch, Ethan & Charlotte Frederickson, Annette & Olivia Jaurrieta and Clara Lynch. Pre-deceased by her parents, Paul and Annette Gumber (née Schillinger), her siblings Joseph (Sophie) Gumber, Paul (Eileen) Gumber, Richard a/k/a Dick Gumber, Catherine (Lester) Schaefer, Joan (Richard) Dina, She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Visitation and celebration of her life will be held on June 11 from 3:00pm-8:00pm at Wolniak Funeral Home, 5700 S. Pulaski Rd., Chicago, IL. A funeral mass will be held on June 12 at 10:00am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 6435 S. Kilbourn Ave., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to stvincentdepaulchicago.org. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
