Obituary

Surrounded by her loving family, and with strumming guitar and songs sung by her grandson-in-law, Jane P. Trapp, beloved mother and 'Granny Jane?ç¥ to all that knew her, was escorted peacefully to heaven on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at home in Plano, Texas. Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 6, 1917, one of Jane?çös treasured memories as a young woman was how proud she was to be chosen one of the select few models to work at the Wilson & Co. exhibit at the 1934 Chicago World?çös Fair. She lived a very full 90 years of life and is remembered by everyone who met her as the 'laughing and smiling Granny?ç¥ who added joy to all hearts. Jane lived most of her life in Chicago but moved to the Dallas area 17 years ago to be close to her oldest daughter, Darlene Trapp Clarke, and her only son, Raymond James Trapp, with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren within reach. Her youngest daughter, Shirley Trapp Mullally, of Memphis, Tennessee visited often, making Dallas a hub of activity for the extended family. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agatha Czekaj, by her brother, Walter Czekaj, his wife, Leona, and by her husband of 42 years, August J. Trapp, who died in 1980, and who no doubt is delighted to have been joined in heaven, after so many years, by his beloved wife. Jane and August ('Gusty?ç¥) Trapp were pioneers of their time. They were equal partners in business ventures as well as in marriage. Jane was a business entrepreneur when there were few female entrepreneurs. She was co-founder and manager of their first business, Gusty?çös Sports Club, at 4254 S. Ashland Ave., in the 1940?çös, in Chicago?çös south side Back of the Yards neighborhood. She and Gus dreamed of having an upscale steak and lobster restaurant and accomplished their dream, in 1958, by buying, innovating and updating the facilities and menu of the Satellite Restaurant, 8700 S. Washtenaw Avenue, near Beverly Hills Country Club. Jane was the mastermind of the venture and proved to be the quiet, focused, resourceful and dedicated manager that made everything go smoothly. At the same time, this multi-tasking career woman bought and managed three store front retail properties in the Loomis area of Chicago. These included a dance studio, a cleaners and an upscale gift shop where she exercised her progressive taste as an Interior Decorator offering unique gifts and modern furniture from the Merchandise Mart. Jane took equal pleasure in being a deeply committed nurturing mother to Raymond, Darlene and Shirley during their youth and to this day. Jane was the matriarch of the family in all endeavors, offering all she met a foundation of deep faith, love of family and fun for all. Without exception, she exhibited a deep pride and love of the United States of America, the country that allowed her Polish immigrant parents to become American citizens and to be given the opportunity to realize the American Dream. Jane is survived by her son, Raymond, of Dallas, Texas, his wife, Cathy, and grandchildren: Laura, Paula, Jordan and Jessica- granddaughter Laura, married to David Burton of Austin, Texas, has three of Granny Jane?çös great grandchildren: Jordan, Josh and Claire. Daughter, Darlene, of Plano, Texas, is married to John Clarke- their son, David Clarke resides in Los Angeles, California and their daughter, Debbie Clarke Thompkins, resides in Plano- granddaughter Debbie and husband, Terry Thompkins, have two of Jane?çös great grandchildren, Gabriel and Adrian, who bestowed upon Jane many hours of sweet affection and exuberant activity. Daughter, Shirley, of Memphis, Tennessee is married to Daniel Mullally- grandchildren Christine Mullally Ford of Memphis, Tennessee and her husband Jarrod, and Sarah Mullally of Tampa, Florida have offered Jane many hours of love, admiration and pampering. Also survived by niece and godchild, Dolores Czekaj Kernagis of Lockport, Illinois, and husband, Anthony- great niece, Deanna Kernagis Shannon, of Bolingbrook, Illinois and husband, Christopher- great great nephew, Christopher Roan Shannon.
