Obituary

Pilar Fernandez passed away peacefully at the ripe age of 95 in Oak Lawn, IL. Her life started shining on October 12, 1922, in Mexico; born to Consuelo Fernandez and Leopoldo Blacayer. She was married to Antonio Rivera Salas, but widowed early in her marriage. Throughout her adult life, she was the personal and trusted nanny to a lawyer and then a doctor in Mexico. Eventually she came to the United States in the early 1980's to be with her son and his family. It was quickly noted by others that she had an incredible gift – cooking amazing dishes! She loved birds, dolls, crocheting, wearing shawls, eating apricots, Rolo's caramel candy, vanilla ice cream, a good cup of Nescafe and was known to enjoy a sip of Rompope (an eggnog-like drink) on New Year's Eve. Aside from this, Pilar was known for her loving and sweet demeanor as well as her humbleness and religious nature. She was a mother and caregiver to many throughout her life. Her light and wisdom will not end here, but instead live on through her family. Her adoring family is her legacy: Alberto F. Rivera (Bernarda), Pilar (Gabriel) and Xochitl (Victor); Consuelo Lopez Rivera (Pablo, deceased), Felix (deceased), Jorge (Leonor), and Fernando. Seven great-grandchildren Pilar (Javier), Claudia (Angel), Liz, Luz, Gabriel A., Sebastian and Quetzalli. Her great-great grandchildren Mia and Amir; with one on the way to be named Adan. As well as her grand-daughter's extended family: Eva Terrazas (deceased), the Frausto, Hernandez and Diaz families who were all a big part of her life.

A Memorial and Chapel service will be held Friday, November 3, 2017, from 9 am – 11 am at Wolniak's Funeral Home on 57th and Pulaski Rd., Chicago. Her burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Alsip, IL.
