Tony (Jose Antonio) Vargas, age 85, of Chicago, Illinois passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 10, 2022.
Dear companion of Emilia Vargas.
Loving father of Margot (Mauro) Ramos, Irene (Carlos) Armas, Anthony (Elizette)
Vargas and Anthony Vargas.
Fond grandfather Monica Ramos, Mia Ramos, Mauro Ramos, Miranda Ramos,
Carlos Adrian Armas, Andres Armas, Adan Anthony Vargas, Evan Emiliano Vargas,
Michael Anthony Vargas, Veronica Vargas and Victoria Rose.
Dear son of the late Jose Nabor Vargas Nuno and the late Ramona Ramos.
Dear brother of Romeo (late Guadalupe) Vargas, Julieta (Adolfo) Morales, Jose Luis Vargas, Gina (Jose) Herrera, late Octavio (Esperanza) Vargas, late Ignacio Vargas, and the late Esperanza (late Richard) Simanis.
Uncle of many nieces and nephews
Cousin and friend of many.
Originally from Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico, Tony grew up in Monterrey, Mexico and as a young man, traveled to the United States where he finally settled in Chicago, which became his permanent home for over 50 years. Tony was an avid sports viewer, and always cheering for Chicago's home teams in baseball, basketball, and football. However, his love in sports was boxing. He made sure to watch every major boxing match and loved viewing them along with family and friends. He was also very present at his grandchildren's sports events, cheering them on.
Tony's hobbies consisted of tending to his garden at home, DIY projects and working on his cars in the garage. He loved visiting his family in Monterrey, Mexico and traveling with family to different locations. He had a great sense of humor and always looking clean cut. Whether it was sporting his favorite team's apparel or styling a suit for special occasions.
Tony had a challenging life journey and overcame many obstacles. He was a very strong man, and this was very present throughout his sickness, until the very end.
While he is no longer with us, his light will shine on brightly in those who knew and loved him.
Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Mother of the Americas Catholic Church, 2226 S Whipple St, Chicago, IL 60623, Illinois.

Originalmente de Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, México, Tony creció en Monterrey, México y de joven viajó a los Estados Unidos donde finalmente se instaló en Chicago, que se convirtió en su hogar permanente por más de 50 años. Tony era un espectador de deportes y siempre echaba porras a los equipos locales de Chicago en béisbol, baloncesto y fútbol americano. Sin embargo, su amor en los deportes era el boxeo. Se aseguró de ver todos los eventos de boxeo importantes y le encantó verlos junto con su familia y amigos. También estuvo muy presente en los juegos deportivos de sus nietos, dando su apoyo.
Los pasatiempos de Tony consistían en cuidar su jardín, proyectos en casa y hacer mecanica en sus autos. Le encantaba visitar a su familia en Monterrey, México y viajar con la familia a diferentes lugares. Tenía un gran sentido del humor y siempre tenia que lucir ropa representando su equipo favorito.
Tony tuvo un viaje de vida desafiante y superó muchos obstáculos. Era un hombre muy fuerte, y eso estuvo muy presente durante toda su enfermedad, hasta el final.
Mientras ya no esté con nosotros, su luz brillará intensamente en aquellos que lo conocieron y amaron.
La misa sera el viernes 24 de junio a las 11:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica Madre de las Américas, 2226 S Whipple St, Chicago, IL 60623, Illinois.
